Self esteem is a funny old thing

There are a few things that (to my mind) are just set.

You don't ask about other people's personal finances (unless it's a very close friend or family member and even then it depends on context).
You don't yoyo in relationships between being with someone and not.
You don't get cross with other people for not sorting out a mess that you have made.
You are grateful for the things your friends do to make your life better in any and every way.
You aren't rude unnecessarily.

Not all of these things relate to self esteem, but some of them do. The relationship thing does, the mess thing does, the gratitude thing does. It just makes me wonder how much of an impact the way people were raised has had on them and how people have ended up so fundamentally different in their views than me.
